Podcasts I listen to : Business Breakdowns
I don’t listen to podcasts as much as I used to, but one that I always kept in my playlist is « Business breakdowns » with Matt Reustle and Zack Fuss. The format is quite simple: they interview each week an investor on a specific company (they also happen to invite CEOs, but I find those less interesting). More often than not, this investor has followed the company for quite some time, sometimes for decades.
The diversity of companies is very large, from Hermès to the company behind Da Vinci (the surgery robots) but also construction aggregate, Rolex, Nintendo, Arm, Sherwin-Williams, Embraer, etc.
The common thread (and this is why I think it attracts me) is that most of those businesses are not related to software. This is not entirely true (« software is eating the world! »), the latest episode on the insurance brokers industry (not boring as it looks) is partly about the importance of the software integration, but, for the most part, we are far from the usual SaaS, zero marginal cost model I have known in my career.
